Scurran joins SCV35 team as new head football coach

Rio Rico, AZ- Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 is proud to announce the addition of Jeff Scurran at Rio Rico High School as the new college and career readiness coach and head coach for the Hawk football program.

Scurran began his teaching and coaching career in 1970. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of

 Florida and a Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona.

In his new academic

 position, he will help lead and coordinate school-based activities to increase the college and career readiness of Rio Rico High School students.

Scurran has an extensive background motivating and coaching students. He is a nationally recognized motivational speaker, athletic consultant, and football clinician. He has been a speaker for the Nike clinic of Champions and for more than 50 major college and state football clinics.

ll of Famer has a reputation for taking zero-win football programs and turning them into title game players in the first year. In his most recent high school coaching position,he took Catalina Foothills to the playoffs in the first season and the title game his fourth season.

His teaching and coaching experience extends beyond Arizona boundaries. He served as the head coach for the “Stars and Stripes” USA Global Challenge Bowl in Germany, Japan, Italy and France. He was named Coach of the Year eleven times in four states and has a current head
coaching record of 306-98-2.

Scurran will work closely with Athletic Director Chris Laughland who is also new to SCV35 this year. Throughout his career, Coach Scurran has proven time after time what it takes to build a winning culture and compete at a high level. Coach Scurran values relationships, brings out excellence in others and knows how to spread pride throughout a community. Scurran was officially approved by the SCVUSD No.35 Governing Board meeting on Tuesday, November 23rd and will begin his position with the district on November 29, 2021.
