The Rio Rico Performing Arts (P.A.C.) grand opening was celebrated this week with a small, in person ribbon cutting ceremony that included Fine Arts students and their families. Culinary, Hawk Theatre, HAWX, Interact, Art students lent their talent to the evening.

In 2019, the community voted yes on a $22.5 million dollar bond and the Rio Rico Performing Arts Centerhas been one of the highly anticipated projects.

There were several guest speakers including the bond project manager and the construction company who worked on the project for the past 18 months.

Superintendent Verdugo commented in his opening remarks that it had ”actually been an 8 year project, since I became superintendent.” He commented about the history and success of the fine arts program over the years. He even joked that he had received comments from former students who were disappointed they wouldn’t have that “milk smell” when performing, referring to their previous stage which was located in the cafeteria.

Before kicking off student performances, Members of the SCV35 Governing Board, SCV35 Administration, Rio Rico High School Administration, and those involved in the management and construction of the P.A.C. gathered on stage to cut the ribbon. RRHS Principal Hector Estrada brought out his giant scissors and Governing Board Members John Hays and Rene Ramirez made the cut.
