"Navigating the College Recruiting Process for Athletes and Families"
Rio Rico, AZ - On April 27, 2022, Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 will host a Southern Arizona student athlete workshop, “Navigating the College Recruiting Process for Athletes.”
Speakers include Derek Van Der Merwe, Assistant Vice President / Chief Operating Officer at the University of Arizona, Jim Monaco, Athletic Director for Pima Community, and Yuri Farkas, Deputy Athletic Director, at Northern Arizona University.
Students and families from Sahuarita, Santa Cruz County, and Cochise County are invited to attend this two-hour workshop geared to help student athletes understand and navigate the college recruiting process. Students from all grades are welcome to attend.
Event organizer, Rio Rico football coach Jeff Scurran said one outcome of the workshop was to get more Southern Arizona student athletes recognized by colleges and universities. “ Kids don’t understand how difficult it is to navigate the financial aid process and younger students need to understand the recruiting process to learn what colleges are looking for.”
